2008 NOH RUNNERS CLINIC SET FOR SATURDAY, OCT. 25

OMAHA, SEPTEMBER 15, 2008 –Runners of all levels are invited to learn from former U.S. Olympian, Jeff Galloway at the 2008 Nebraska Orthopaedic Hospital Runners Clinic. The clinic is set for Saturday, October 25 at Nebraska Orthopaedic Hospital in Omaha.

Jeff Galloway, this year's featured speaker, is a former U.S. Olympian (1972) in the 10,000 meter and was also an alternate on the marathon team. Galloway has competed against the world's best athletes in Europe, Africa and the former Soviet Union. He broke the US 10-mile record (47:49) in 1973 and has a six-mile best of 27:21. He has been a top place finisher in many of the prominent US races such as 5th and 7th in the Boston Marathon.

Galloway is the author of North America's best selling running book. "Galloway's Book on Running" and is also a monthly columnist in Runner's World magazine. He is founder of Galloway Marathon Training Program. In 2007, there was Galloway marathon programs in 40+ cities. Galloway is on the road over 50 percent of the time conducting seminars, motivating groups and helping others improve their lives through exercise. Jeff has coached over 200,000 runners and walkers to their goals. His mission is to help people improve the quality of their lives through physical activity and nutrition.

David E. Brown, M.D., an orthopaedic surgeon at Nebraska Orthopaedic Hospital will also be presenting on running injuries and injury prevention. Other speakers also include Mike Ewoldt, owner of the Peak Performance in Omaha, Christy Nielsen, physical therapist at NOH and three-time Olympic Trials Marathon qualifier, and Eric Pinkall, physical therapist at NOH.

The cost of the clinic is $65 and includes breakfast, lunch, dinner, long sleeve shirt and plenty of useful information. A run is also scheduled with Jeff Galloway Sunday morning, Oct. 26. For questions on the clinic, click here.

 

FREE INJURY EVALUATIONS FOR ATHELTES EACH FRIDAY NIGHT

OMAHA, AUGUST 26, 2008 –For a fifth year, Nebraska Orthopaedic Hospital is providing free injury evaluations and treatment at their Friday Night Injury Clinic, which begins this Friday, August 29. The Injury Clinic occurs each Friday in the Fall and is open from 9 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. to accommodate athletes after Friday night football games. Athletes will be able to visit an orthopaedic physician and physical therapist during this time to assess their injury or athletic pain for no cost. Casting, x-ray and bracing are also free at the clinic.

"Easy access to the assessment and treatment of sports related injuries is important for all athletes and that is what our Friday Night Injury Clinics are all about," said Tom Macy, Chief Executive Officer.  "We want to make sure that athletes can be seen by an orthopaedic surgeon and physical therapist as soon as possible after their injury occurs."

The Friday Night Injury Clinic runs through Friday, October 31.
